Notes from the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week
AM:PM designers Ankur and Priyanka Modis biggest USP so far has been the infrastructure and expertise they have inherited from Ankurs mother, veteran designer Anju Modi. Their show at WIFW though marked a remarkable coming-of-age of the relatively young designer label, which specialises in western clothing. Easy-to-wear silhouettes in jerseys, chiffons and satins,
subtle embroidery and delicate prints lent an easy elegance to the draped pants, the dresses and the kaftans. The ombre effect,a recurring feature at this edition of the fashion week was effectively used. In short,a collection both chic and classy.
Sonam Dubal and Jason and Anshu for Small Shops spring-summer collection meant for the airy fairies and the likes of Luna Lovegood. Lip cloud shifts, butterfly zippered jackets, fudge hearts on tops and drawstring trousers with multi-panelsBangalore-based designers Jason Cherian and Anshu Arora returned to the FDCI-organised fashion week fold with a winner called Na Ati (Not This). Dreamy colour bursts blended with shifting silhouettes, creating whimsical but easy to wear ensembles. On a day when the ramp saw neat collections from designers like Vineet Bahl,Namrata Joshipura and several others, the quirkiness of the Small Shop collection was charming, and very refreshing. The mood of the show,in fact, was set by Dubal, who showed ahead of the duo. His use of indigenous Indian handicrafts like batik and block prints, patchworks and embroidery on Indian fabrics like khadi and chanderi brought in an ingenuous twist to western silhouettes. We loved the bias dresses, the kaftans and the chanderi bags. Quietly elegant.
