An elderly woman was found murdered at her Vile Parle house early on Saturday morning and ornaments worth Rs 3.63 lakh were missing from the residence,police said. This is the latest in a spate of senior citizen murders in the city this year.
Police said the victim,Prameela Ghodi (87),was found dead by her son Arun (67) and daughter-in-law Smita (64). They said no external injuries were found on Ghodis body and she might have been either suffocated or strangled to death.
Inspector Bausaheb Taware of Vile Parle police said the robbers had broken open the latch and sneaked into the house on the second floor of Shanti Niwas building on Friday night.
Arun and Smita stay in an adjacent room of the victims flat and both flats have one main door. Arun said in his police statement that the victim had gone to sleep around 10.30 pm on Friday,and he found the latch broken when he went to collect newspapers in the morning.
He found Ghodi unconscious in her bedroom with no jewellery on her body and the cupboard ransacked. Arun called his family doctor,who declared her dead. She was taken to a nearby hospital for autopsy,police said. ENS
