Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) deep cleaning campaign, aimed at cleansing the city thoroughly, that was launched early this month will now be extended across Maharashtra, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said on Sunday.
For the second consecutive week, the CM participated in the cleanliness drive — being held only during weekends — aimed at carrying out deep cleaning of roads, pavements, lanes and public areas of the city, with active participation from citizens.
During the course of inspection, the CM said, “The deep cleaning campaign has had a huge impact in reducing atmospheric pollution in Mumbai. Seeing the positive results of this campaign, we will extend the service throughout the state.”
Furthermore, Shinde told reporters that the civic body is set to soon deploy marshals to resolve the issue of illegal traffic parking in Mumbai.
After launching the initiative with a mega beach clean up drive last week, CM Shinde carried out inspection of four city wards on Sunday, starting from Ghatkopar’s Amrut Circle wherein he washed the streets using jet sprays, followed by an inspection at the BMC–run Rajawadi Hospital. Later, Shinde cleaned the swathes outside Chembur’s Ambedkar Garden as well as the streets near Tilak Nagar’s Sahyadri Ground.
While inspecting the cleaning work, Shinde alongside Municipal Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal, was seen interacting with sanitation workers, locals as well as joining some children, much to their delight, in a game of cricket.
