Chief Minister Ashok Chavans alleged statement that special funds would be given to villages that voted en bloc for him during the assembly elections, has come under the scanner of the Election Commission (EC).
The EC has directed the district collector of Nanded to investigate and initiate action on the complaint filed by BJP general secretary Vinod Tawde.
In November,Tawde has written to the Election Commissioner complaining against the statement made by Chavan in his constituency,Bhokar in Nanded district. Tawde had requested the EC to probe into the alleged statement by Chavan. The Chief Minister, who visited his constituency after occupuing his office, had announced rewards of Rs 5 lakh each for developmental works in three villages of Gargotwadi,Nekhni and Zambli on November 14. He had defeated his nearest rival independent candidate Madhavrao Kinhalkar by over one lakh votes.
Tawde in his letter had termed the announcement made by Chavan as a bribe to the villagers.
Reacting to the issue,Tawde said that there is video evidence of Chavans statement. I hope appropriate action will be taken in one month time. It has already been a month since we filed the complaint, said Tawde.
