With an aim to complete three Metro corridors (Phase I) in the city by 2014 end,the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) on Friday appointed consultants to prepare detailed project report (DPR) for proposed Metro corridors in the Mumbai Metro Masterplan. The decision was taken by Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation.
The DPR will be prepared for Charkop-Dahisar corridor,Andheri east-Dahisar east corridor,Bandra-Kurla Complex -Kanjurmarg via Air port with extension from BKC to Mahim corridor and Ghatkopar-Mulund corridor. According to MMRDA,SPAN Consultants Pvt Ltd has been given the contract of preparing the DPR for Charkop-Dahisar corridor and Andheri East to Dahisar East corridor. RITES Ltd and Lea Associates South Asia Pvt Ltd have been given the contract to prepare the DPR for BKC to Kanjurmarg via Airport with extension from BKC to Mahim corridor from Phase III while CES India Pvt Ltd will be responsible for the preparation of the DPR for Ghatkopar-Mulund corridor from Phase II.
MMRDA officials said that the reports are expected by February after which,tendering process will begin. The DPR for three corridors of Phase I were prepared by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation,of which Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar is expected to be completed by 2010 end.
Ratnakar Gaikwad,Metropolitan Commissioner,MMRDA,said,This step will assure Mumbaikars that the state is concerned about their commuting woes. Meanwhile,the MMRDA is also expecting a study on commercial exploitation of underground section for the Colaba-Bandra Metro Corridor.
