Defence says trial nearly over, prosecution out to prove more

As far as the defence is concerned,Ajmal Kasab’s trial is all but over. On Tuesday, the onus will be on the prosecution to convince the court of the charges that Kasab’s confession leaves out.

“I will argue on the charges that Kasab has conveniently left out despite evidence having been placed. If Kasab accepts these, then well and good, otherwise we will have to convince the court to accept our arguments,” special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam said.

Senior defence lawyer Majeed Memon said,“The trial is almost over. After his partial acceptance it is up to the prosecution to present more evidence or press that this be accepted, that certain charges left out of Kasab’s confession be considered. If Kasab accepts these charges during the argument, then the court, after accepting the guilty plea, will move on to arguments on the quantum of punishment.”

Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rakesh Maria said,“There is still quite a bit we still want to prove, such as the larger conspiracy, how it was hatched, the role of the LeT,and how the accused were trained, equipped and launched. The cases regarding the attacks on Nariman House,Taj Mahal Hotel, and the Oberoi-Trident Hotels also remain. Besides, two accused other than Kasab are on trial.”

Defence lawyer Subash Kanse said,“Once the court decides whether to accept Kasab’s confession, his trial will be over. Co-accused Fahim Ansari and Sabahuddin Ahmed’s trial will be separated and the prosecution will present evidence.”

What they said
His confession will unmask the perpetrators before the world and speed up the trial. I congratulate the police and prosecution lawyer.

It is not possible for him to have accessed any information from newspapers. None of my officers spoke to him. He is always in solitary confinement… the last few days,he was silent and kept reading the Qur’an but that was usual on weekends.

As a wife,I would want nothing less than death for Kasab at the scene of the attack. But I know the law does not allow that. I hope the law will bring justice to everyone whose destiny has changed due to the attack and to everyone of us who still feel the pain of that day
Vinita Kamte,
Wife of slain ACP Ashok Kamte

I hope this will speed up the trial. Now,he should be hanged. He is not the only one responsible for the attack. India should go after the rest

He should be hanged immediately. He says he did not kill my father but police officers present and local residents say it was Kasab. How can he lie?
