Crime Branch to probe Thapa murder case

The investigation into the murder of small-time actor Meenakshi Thapa — who was allegedly killed by a couple who then decapitated her — was transferred from Amboli police station to the Mumbai Police Crime Branch on Wednesday.

The investigation into the murder of small-time actor Meenakshi Thapa — who was allegedly killed by a couple who then decapitated her — was transferred from Amboli police station to the Mumbai Police Crime Branch on Wednesday.

A decision to hand the case over to the Crime Branch was taken after Thapa’s family visited Mumbai Police Commissioner Arup Patnaik at his office on Wednesday afternoon.

Thapa’s brother Navraj, who is a jawan in the Gorkha regiment, said,“The Amboli police began investigating the murder and could not make any breakthrough for 15-20 days. It was finally the Crime Branch that began its own probe and arrested two persons, before handing them over to the Amboli police.”

“I believe that two people alone could not have carried out the murder and disposed of the body in the manner it was done. Proper searches of the spot from where the body was recovered were not conducted. To ensure that there are no lapses or negligence in the investigations in future,we wanted the case to be transferred to the Crime Branch,” said Navraj, who was accompanied by his mother Kamla.

Senior Mumbai Police officers confirmed that the case has been transferred on the orders of the city police chief.
