CR to run new Siemens rakes on Harbour Line

The Central Railway has decided to run the new Siemens rake on the Harbour line. The new age Siemens rake was introduced on the Western Railway and was later extended to CR.

The Central Railway (CR) has decided to run the new Siemens rake on the Harbour line. The new age Siemens rake was introduced on the Western Railway (WR) and was later extended to CR. But it could not be introduced on the Harbour line as the platforms on this section are meant for 9-coach rakes. So,the rake was modified to suit the Harbour line.

The rakes are not only spacious but have better ventilation too. The Harbour line runs Direct Current (DC) unlike the main line of CR,which now has both DC and Alternate Current (AC) service. The new rake can be used on both the sections.

Meanwhile,CR has decided to run fast train on Thane-Panvel section. To start with,CR would be running four fast trains on this section with halts at Thane,Koparkhairne,Nerul,Belapur,Kharghar and Panvel. CR runs 160 trains on this section.

“We had done a passenger survey and on the basis of the ticket sales,we learnt that stations like Nerul,Belapur and Kharghar need faster and quicker service. The Thane-Panvel section has lesser traffic compared to the CST-Panvel section, which has train frequency of four minutes,” said Chauhan.

The trains would be operated during peak hours with three in the morning ( 8.06 am,8.25 am from Thane and 9.49 am from Panvel) and one in the evening (8.09 pm from Panvel).
