The Central Railway (CR) has extended the use of its recently launched mobile ticketing application to 20 railway stations on the Central and Harbour Line.
The mobile ticketing system was recently launched by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu at the Dadar railway station with a view to cut down on the time spent by commuters at ticket windows.
“The idea is to minimise the queues at booking windows. This initiative is a part of the inauguration that took place by the Railway Minister,” said a CR official.
The official added, “Under this system, the commuters have to first download the application, which was developed by the Centre for Railway Information System (CRIS), on their cellphones. Commuters can then sign up for the service by entering their details like name, city and cellphone number, after which an ‘R-wallet’ is generated. It can be recharged online or at ticket windows. A user can then log in using the password generated by the system, which is sent to them in a text message, and take a print out of the ticket at any ATVM (Automatic Ticket Vending Machine) at railway stations.”
Once printed, the ticket will be valid for a day and the journey will have to begin in an hour, exactly like a ticket bought at a ticket window. The application can now be used at Dadar, CST, Byculla, Bhandup, Sanpada (HB), Kalyan, Kurla, Ghatkopar, Mulund, Vashi (HB), Masjid Bunder, Panvel (HB), Belapur (HB), Ambernath, Nerul (HB), Vikhroli, Airoli, Sion, Sandhurst Road and Thane stations.
