The Mumbai Police Crime Branch on Monday arrested a history-sheeter in Powai who was allegedly involved in several cases of robbery and dacoity in the city.
The accused has been identified as Santosh Daulatsingh Rajput alias Bachcha. According to the police,he was wanted in cases of robberies,dacoities,and assault registed at V P Road,Azad Maidan,Pant Nagar,Ulhas Nagar police stations,and at the Property Cell and Unit 6 of the Crime Branch.
At 10:45 am on Monday,Unit 10 of the Crime Branch received information that Rajput along with his associates were planning to commit a robbery and would be carrying firearms and ammunition. According to the information,Rajput was suppose to meet his associate Balchandra Baldeo Pasi alias Major at an open plot opposite S M Shetty School in Hiranandani,Powai.
Acting on the tip-off,the police laid a trap at the spot and arrested Rajput when he arrived around 2:40 pm. The police recovered a factory-made 9mm pistol and four live rounds from Rajput,and booked him under the Arms Act for illegal possession of a weapon.
On interrogation,Rajput revealed that he had bought the weapon from Uttar Pradesh along with Pasi for committing a robbery. He has also allegedly confessed to his role in another case of robbery in Mulund.
