Later in the day the video went viral following which the constable was suspended. (Image used for representation purpose)The Mumbai police on Friday suspended a police constable for allegedly assaulting an app-based cab driver near the CSMT station in South Mumbai.
Police said that the suspension order was issued after a video of police constable Rupesh Manik Randive assaulting the driver with a stick went viral on social media.
In the video, the driver can be heard saying, “I had a pick up outside the station and while I was waiting for the passenger, the constable came and asked me to leave. After I requested for some time, he slapped me after which he got a stick and brutally assaulted me.”
Police said that the incident took place at around 4am on Friday after which he was later taken to a hospital for medical examination while he also visited MRA Marg police station. “We asked him whether he wanted to complain and as he said no, the driver went home,” said an officer.
Later in the day the video went viral following which the constable was suspended.
