A police constable attached to the Mumbai police’s Protection Unit shot himself to death on Wednesday. Ketan Pathade, 33, committed suicide at his apartment in Borivali (West).

“The constable was alone at home when he took the extreme step,” said a police officer.

“Pathade possessed a service revolver that he used to kill himself. The constable shot himself in the head,” said Balsingh Rajput, deputy commissioner of police, zone 12.

“A brief suicide note was recovered from the deceased, where he mentioned the act but not the reason,” said Rajput.

Rajput added that the Borivali police had received a call from the control room at 4 pm regarding the incident and officers were immediately sent to the spot.

“The note was written in Marathi and the motive is still unknown, He did not hold anyone accountable for his actions,” said Nrayan Khairre senior police inspector with the Borivali police station.

City sees heavy showers

Parts of The the city, witnessed sudden heavy showers on Thursday evening. IMD officials said the rain can be attributed to a trough and that it is a localised phenomenon. “We could expect a few showers in the city as well, but it is a localised phenomenon,” said VK Rajeev, IMD (Mumbai) director.
