(Express Photo by Deepak Joshi) Attacking the Congress, PM Narendra Modi Saturday said the party had a foreign mindset and kept Dalits, tribals and OBCs out of the mainstream. “A family believes it has inherited the right to rule the country from the Britishers and thrives on divide and rule policy,” the PM said at a rally in Maharashtra’s Washim district.
Claiming that Congress is being driven by “urban naxals”, Modi said, “All those who are against India’s emergence as a powerful country are close to the Congress.”
He accused the Congress of looting the poor. “They (Congress) think if we all unite, then their agenda to divide the country will fail,” he said at the rally after launching several projects.
At a rally in Thane after laying foundation of a slew of infrastructure projects, the PM took a jibe at the Shiv Sena (UBT). “Congress in J&K is talking of restoring Article 370 if voted to power. It has not elicited any response from them (Shiv Sena UBT). They used to talk big on nationalism. It shows to what extent they have compromised their ideology for appeasement politics. In Parliament, we introduced a legislation on Waqf Board. Even then, they did a sin by not supporting the cause. All this turnaround is for new votebank (Muslims),” he said.
Urging people to keep the MVA away from power, the PM said, “The Opposition is dreaming of power post-polls. It is not going to happen. Only the Mahayuti, which is development-oriented, will realise the Viksit Bharat 2047 dream. The infrastructure projects being undertaken will transform the face of Mumbai, Thane and adjoining cities.”
In Washim, the PM visited the Jagdamba Poharadevi temple, a pilgrimage site for the Banjara (nomad) community. He also inaugurated the Banjara National Museum, showcasing the rich social and cultural tradition of the community. Modi accused the Congress governments of continuing British legacy of “harassing” Banjaras and keeping them away from the mainstream.
Modi said, “The Britishers had dismissed the entire community (Banjara) as criminals. Like the British rule, this Congress family also does not consider Dalits, backward and tribals as their equals. They feel India should be ruled by only one family. That is why they have always maintained a derogatory attitude towards the Banjara community. BJP government has always strived for the holistic development of all oppressed and backward classes.” He also disbursed the 18th installment of PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi worth `20,000 crore.
