The Rs 13,000-crore project was earlier planned as a stretch between Marine Lines in South Mumbai and Kandivali in Western Mumbai.
“The Coastal Road will be extended till Bhayander. The construction work will be divided into four to five packages. When the entire stretch becomes operational, it will bring huge relief to Mumbaikars,” Goyal said addressing mediapersons at BJP headquarters in Mumbai.
Goyal added that he has spoken to Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav regarding approvals for the project.
“I have already raised this issue with Union minister for environment to get necessary approval and clearances. The report for extended stretch will be out by August 23,” he said.
Goyal, who represents Mumbai North Lok Sabha constituency, held a meeting with Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation to discuss the Coastal Road extension plan.
On the traffic issues in the city, which has seen rapid growth northward, the Union minister said, “We have plans to rope IIT Bombay as a consultant to address traffic woes… We have already requested Tata Group to share their operational and research report on Mumbai traffic.”
According to Goyal, IIT-B played a critical role in giving their expertise on tackling issues Mumbai local train services. “Their expertise will be useful in decongesting traffic in Mumbai,” he added.
Goyal also spoke about plan to develop 37 acres plot in Kandivali in Mumbai North for an international sports centre. It will be a joint effort between Maharashtra government and Sports Authority of India (SAI).
The state-of-the-art sports complex complete with modern facilities is being planned to promote youth talent from rural and tribal belts Palghar and Thane. The finances will be sources from existing budget, he said.
Goyal said he has discussed with Union Minister for Youth Affairs and sports Mansukh Mandaviya about the allocation of funds through SAI for the development of the sports complex.
The Union minister also said that slum redevelopment projects which have been languishing for years will be fast tracked.
