BMC’s women lifeguards plan a flop

The civic administration’s efforts to recruit women lifeguards for city’s beaches have not been successful in the first attempt. The only two women applicants were rejected in the recruitment process as they did not meet the physical criteria. “The two women who applied for the posts were rejected as they did not clear the height test,” said S V Joshi,Chief Fire Officer (in charge).

The mandatory height required to clear the lifeguard recruitment test is 165 cm for both men and women. According to a recruitment officer, the women were around 158 cm.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation had recently invited applications for the post of permanent lifeguards. Of the 218 applications received for the seven vacant posts, only two were from women. The BMC had reserved two of the seven permanent posts for women. After the two women failed the test, men were recruited for the seven posts.

Govt continues to pamper Pasricha: Ribeiro

In a letter slamming the government, former police commissioner Julio Ribeiro has opposed the move to appoint former director general of police P S Pasricha to the State Security Commission. The letter addressed to Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan also states that the government should immediately evict Pasricha from the flat he has been allegedly occupying without any official sanction. Ribeiro has written to the CM as the trustee of NGO Public Concern for Governance Trust (PCGT). Ribeiro said based on RTI findings,Pasricha has been occupying a flat in Amber,Malabar Hill on Narayan Dabholkar Road since January 1,2011 without official sanction. “There was no earthly reason why he was allowed to stay there for the entire 2010. I was told that a special case was made out, which is totally unwarranted and violates norms of good governance. A monthly rent of Rs 25 per sq ft is being recovered from him, though the rates in Malabar Hill area are anything up to Rs 200 per sq ft,” the letter states.
