Aneesh,Sohal win
*BOMBAY International’s Aneesh Sanghai and Sohal Shah shone above the rest while scoring contrasting wins to advance into the sub-junior boys’ singles quarterfinal in the PJ Hindu Gym-MCDTTA major ranking table tennis tournament on Wednesday.
Sanghai,who is coached by Prasad Naik,produced a display full of guile and guts as he thrashed Rutwik Patel 11-4,11-5,11-5. But while the fifth-standard student from the Cathedral school wasn’t made to break much sweat during his comfortable victory,it was tough going for Shah though he did get the better of Atharv Kurade in a tie that went the full distance.
Trailing 1-2,Shah rallied back to turn the tables on Kurade with the final score reading 9-11,11-2,6-11,11-9,11-5. In other closely-contested ties,Parthav Kelkar was stretched to the core by Aashay Parikh before making the last eight grade with a 13-11,9-11,13-11,8-11,11-5 win. Satyam Jindal,on the other hand,was up 2-0 but lost his way from thereon before clinching the tie in the decider over Mohnil Shah.

MCA appoints IT sub-committee
*In the first time in its history,Mumbai Cricket Association has formed an Information Technology sub-committee,to be headed by its treasurer Ravi Savant,to keep abreast of technology and reap its benefits. The IT panel would revamp MCA’s website by improving its content so that it can attract advertisers,Savant said. This is the first time an IT sub-committee has been formed by MCA. We want to improve the website’s content to attract advertisements,make online the registration and transfer of players,and entries to various tournaments. These measures would increase the visitors to the sites and attract advertisers, Savant said. He also said that there were plans to start interactive sessions on the website on umpiring,coaching among others.

*Opener Nikhil Patil Jr of Mumbai stole the limelight with a superb 182 against Rajasthan,while Karnataka’s left-arm spinner S K Moinuddin starred with 6 for 99 against Saurashtra in the preliminary round matches of the Buchi Babu Cricket tournament here today.

Titles for Swapnil,Samidha
*SWAPNIL Golatkar and Samidha Jadhav won titles in the men’s and women’s singles of the Kitte Bhandari Aikyavardhak Mandali Carrom Tournament at their premises.
In the final match,top-seeded Golatkar blanked Shashank Naik in straight games 25-0,25-0,before lifting the title for second time. In the women’s singles final top ranked Jadhav prevailed over Vimal Mohite in a thrilling three-game encounter 25-20,17-25,25-18 to win the title for the second time. In the semi finals she beat Trupti Kambli 25-5,25-15 in straight games while Mohite had prevailed over Surekha Nagvekar in a three game encounter 25-11,10-25,25-7.
