Central Railway were made to work hard for their solitary goal win by the Mumbai FC U-19 boys in a closely-contested Elite Division match of the Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) league at the University Sports Pavilion,Marine Lines on Wednesday.

The rail-men found it difficult to break through the tight-marking defence of the youngsters from Mumbai FC and could just manage a single strike towards the final moments of the match. In fact two minutes of injury time had ceased following the 90 regulation minutes when P Shafique got his team ahead. The lateness of the goal,however,ensured that the Mumbai FC colts had no time to stage a comeback.

Meanwhile,M Kumar and Rivad D struck a goal each within 11 minutes to seal a 2-0 victory for Indian Navy over struggling PIFA Colaba FC in another Elite Division encounter.

Kulkarni scalps seven

RIDING high on seven wickets haul by left-arm medium pacer Rahul Kulkarni,Sports Promotion beat Bharat Cricket Club by 76 runs to enter Mahim-Dadar Cricket tournament semi-final at Shivaji Park.

In another match,all-round performance from Kevin Almeda helped MIG register 124 runs comprehensive win over Koli Combined.

Sitwala top seed

WORLD No. 2 Dhruv Sitwala and Devendra Joshi. both of P J Hindu Gymkhana,have been seeded one and two respectively in the WZO Trust sponsored Dadar Parsee Colony Gymkhana (DPCG) break billiards tournament for ‘The Iris Sippy Trophy’,which commences at the gymkhana’s billiards hall from March 15 to 28. Sitwala and Joshi in addition to Arun Agrawal of Elphinstone Cricket Club will,meanwhile,play to a stiff handicap 100 points.

Chintan,Kartikeya advance

CHINTAN Jhaveri of Bombay Gymkhana and Kartikeya Sharma of Vashi registered contrasting wins to qualify for the second phase of the Islam Gymkhana-BSAM.in Open Snooker Tournament on Wednesday.

Jhaveri halted Kekoo Nicholson of CCI with a 3-1 win after dropping the third frame,while Sharma overcame Shekhar Surve of Shivaji Park Gymkhana in straight frames. The top 16 from Group C (with a handicap of +41 to +60) will qualify for Group B.
