CHILDREN'S Academy from Malad clinched their third title of the season as they got the better of Don Bosco,Matunga 3-2 in the final of the Mumbai Schools Sports Association (MSSA) U-14 Inter-school knockout hockey tournament held at the St Stanislaus High School ground in Bandra.

Children’s Academy claim third title

CHILDREN’S Academy from Malad clinched their third title of the season as they got the better of Don Bosco,Matunga 3-2 in the final of the Mumbai Schools Sports Association (MSSA) U-14 Inter-school knockout hockey tournament held at the St Stanislaus High School ground in Bandra. Hemant Phadikar scored two goals and Jay Agarwal netted one for the champs,while Don Bosco got their goals through Bryce Miranda and Ayush Shetty. In the girls’ final,Carmel of St Joseph,Malad rode on Lynette Lobo’s strike to defeat Durello Convent,Bandra 1-0.

Results: Children Academy 3 (Hemant Phadikar 2,Jay Agarwal) bt Don Bosco 2 (Bryce Miranda,Ayush Shetty); Girls’ U-14 final: Carmel of St Joseph,Malad 1 (Lynette Lobo) bt Durello Convent,Bandra 0.

East Indians blindside Sea View

G M FRANCO East Indians scored a fluent 3-1 win over Sea View SC in a Super Division match of the Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) League at the Poinsur Gymkhana ground on Monday evening. Michael Idewele,Clint Fernandes and Manish Koli were on target for the winners,while Rakesh Dhanu reduced the margin for the losers.

Results: Super Div: Soccer XI 0 drew with Income Tax 0; Greater Mumbai Police 2 (Nilesh Koregaonkar,Amir Shaikh) drew with Mumbai Muslims 2 (Hiten Mahida,Jiten Koli); G M East Indians 3 (Michael Idewele,Clint Fernandes,Manish Koli) bt Sea View SC 1 (Rakesh Dhanu).

St Andrew’s,Rizvi in GSA final

BANDRA college outfits,St Andrew’s and Rizvi advanced to the final of the Goan Sports Association (GSA) organised Inter-Collegiate football tournament. Andrew’s blanked Dalmiya College 2-0,while Rizvi overcame Thakur College 2-1,at the Goa Sports Association (GSA) ground,Cross Maidan on Monday.

Results: Semi Final: Rizvi College 2 (Kevin Patrick,Marvin Stevens) bt Thakur College 1 (Digvijay Yadav); St Andrew’s College 2 (Elton Quados,Scott D’Souza) bt Dalmiya College 0.

Canara’s star on the rise

STAR of Canara SC proved too strong for Mogaveera SC as they romped to an emphatic 4-0 win in the final of the 17th Late Ramanath Payyade Memorial Football League,orgainsed by the Karnatak Sporting Association (KSA) and played at Cross Maidan. Oliver Bennis netted a brace,while Melwyn Vaz and Nigel D’Souza contributed one goal each towards their triumph. Earlier,Karnatak Amateurs SC claimed the third place match defeating Uchil United SC 2-1. The champions,Star of Canara,were richer by Rs 30,000 and the runners-up Mogaveera,received a cash prize of Rs 20,000.

Results: Final: Star of Canara 4 (Oliver Bennis 2,Melwyn Vaz,Nigel D’Souza) bt Mogaveera SC 0; Third place: Karnatak Amateurs SC 2 (Shravan Shetty,Ashish Kunder) bt Uchil United SC 1 (Vernon Saldanha).

Navy thrash state police

A CHARGED-UP Indian Navy swamped Maharashtra State Police (MSP) 6-2 in a Super Division match of the Mumbai Hockey Association Limited (MHAL) League at the MHAL Stadium,Churchgate on Monday. After the teams were tied 2-2 at the end of the first half,the sailors came out with all guns blazing in the second and scored four goals during this period to run away deserving winners.

Results: Super Div: Indian Navy 6 (Pawan Kumar 2,Surender S 2,Faheem Khan 2) bt Maharashtra State Police 2 (Mukund Rajput,Vinod Manugade).

Project Play pocket title

PROJECT Play and Vision Rescue claimed the top honours in the 2nd ONGC NGO Football Championship. In the finals,Project Play overcame Anjay Sports Foundation 5-4 in the boys’ under-12 to 14 years category,while Vision Rescue prevailed over Rahee Foundation 3-2 in the boys’ under-14 to 16 years event,at the Western Railway Sports Ground. In the boys’ under-16 category,Vision Rescue beat Rahee Foundation 3-2 on penalties after scores were tied 1-1 at halftime. The girls’ final between PIFA Foundation and Anjay Sports Foundation,too needed penalties to decide the winner. PIFA’s Pratiksha Shinde scored from the spot in the shoot-out.
