The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad has arrested eight men who carried out attacks at the behest of Kumar Pillai,Chhota Rajan and Ravi Pujari gangs through their own networks of men equipped with weapons. The men used youths without criminal records as depositories for weapons,another group would work out the networks and the attack would be planned at senior levels.

Land for road: High Court asks church to approach BMC again

In a partial relief for St Stephen’s Church in south Mumbai,the Bombay High Court has directed it to make a fresh representation to the BMC against a land acquisition notice. BMC wants a part of the Church premises for road expansion. According to the petition,the BMC had made a similar demand in 1973,and a part of the church land had been given for road-widening. BMC had then said no more land would be sought in the future.”If more land is given then the steps of the church would directly lead out to the main road,” the church’s lawyer said.

Minor fire in Vile Parle building

A minor fire broke out on the fourth floor of Veelse Building,S V Road,near Sony Mony showroom in Vile Parle on Monday afternoon. According to BMC officials,there was no casualty and nobody was injured. “We got a call around 3 pm and two fire engines rushed to the spot. The blaze was doused immediately,“ said a fire official.
