Only lathis for constables? HC at Kasab hearing
The Bombay High Court,hearing the death sentence confirmation of 26/11 convict Ajmal Kasab,was on Friday surprised to know constables,including the late Tukaram Omble,had only lathis when they nabbed Kasab at Girgaum Chowpatty. “Has there been any improvement in the Mumbai police force since and are constables given weapons?” The division bench of Justices Ranajana Desai and RV More sought to know when informed only two cops at chowpatty nakabandi had firearms. “They now use plastic batons,as wooden lathis violate human rights,” government counsel Ujjwal Nikam said.
