Golden oldies

This year’s auditions for the latest season of Dance India Dance have thrown up twice as much fun since the new edition,DID Doubles,is in search of India’s best dancing couple. All the auditions were in pairs this year and the channel saw some very interesting couples showing up to groove together. The most heart-warming story is that of Mr and Mrs Sayani who came to the Lucknow auditions. In their 70s,the couple was graceful and nimble, and shared the most natural chemistry stemming from over 35 years of togetherness. Of course,Geeta Kapoor had to jump off her feet and join them up on stage for a jig. Our TV judges sure know how to turn even the most romantic of dances into an eye-rolling jig.

Dare to dive

VIA Roy Chaudhury, who plays Avanti on Colors’ Maati ki Banno, had quite a few adventures while shooting in Mauritius recently. The hydrophobic actor had to do paragliding and parasailing for the shoot, and even dive into the water for one of the sequences. She was so reluctant to get into the freezing water that the whole unit had given up on convincing her. “When I learnt about the shooting sequence I almost froze with fear,” says Via. Her co-star Manoj Chandila, who plays Vikram, has a different experience to share; “Mauritius was one action-packed experience where I got a chance to do all that I have never done before. From parasailing, paragliding, diving and other water sports,I did it all.” They are certainly not two of a kind.

Fire and smoke

As winter sets in,Alka aka Sara Khan and Chander aka Yashwant Singh from Dhoondh Legi Manzil Humein on Star One are taking extra care to protect themselves from the biting cold. The show will now run six days a week and the actors are working around the clock. So they are leaving no stone unturned to stay away from ill health. As they mostly shoot outdoors, they are often seen preparing herbal tea and rehearsing their lines around warm and cozy bonfires. They have also gone so far as to ask the director to provide them with warm clothing. Sara and Yashwant ought to know that they may keep as warm as they like, but the show will be as cold as day-old turkey unless they manage to ignite some chemistry between themselves.
