Builder kidnapped, rescued from near dumping ground; gangster, aide held

He was admitted to the hospital after being rescued. Bachkana, who has over 30 cases against him, had come out on bail last week.

A police officer said that the incident took place Thursday night when the builder Hifzur Ansari was in Byculla.

Around 9.30 pm, a person approached him saying that person in a red car parked nearby wanted to talk to him. When Ansari went to the car, the person asked him to sit inside. Later the person overpowered him and fled from the spot.

Later the person with whom Ansari was talking approached his son and told him about what transpired. Around 1.30am, they received a call from a person who identified himself as Ilias Bachkana and demanded Rs 10 crore ransom if Ansari was to be kept safe.

The family then approached the Byculla police where an FIR was registered.

The crime branch began a parallel probe in the matter. Based on technical intelligence the police traced the builder to the Mankhurd area. Eventually, they found him tied up in a room near the dumping ground. The police team found that he has been beaten up through the night.

An officer said, “We rescued Ansari and got him hospitalised. We arrested Bachkana and an accomplice who had helped him. We are on the lookout for one more person.”
