More standing space in trains
The Western Railway has decided to reduce seating space in trains to manage crowd. A WR official said in a pilot project,three-seater benches would be reduced by one seat each. “The plan is to create more space to manage peak hours,” said WR chief spokesperson Sharat Chandrayan.

Airport ground staff stay off work
Following a minor tussle between NCP and Shiv Sena workers,a few of the airport ground staff stayed off work on Friday morning. Airport operations,however,were not unaffected. The tussle happened when some workers were not allowed entry into the premises as their passes were not returned to them on Thursday night. The situation was resolved by noon.

Two held for betting on World Cup match
The Social Service (SS) Branch of the Mumbai Police have busted an alleged betting racket operating out of Malad (East) with the arrest of two persons,allegedly involved in betting on the New Zealand-Zimbabwe match. Police said they raided room 702 of Monica Sadan Building in Macchani Nagar,Malad (East). “A person named Durabh Patel was accepting bets. A laptop,TV,three mobile and two landline phones were found in his possession. He named one Deepak Sanghavi too,” said a Crime Brime officer.

Woman robbed of valuables in Andheri
A woman was robbed of valuables worth Rs 11 lakh on Wednesday after she refused to employ her domestic help’s friends. The police are on the lookout for one Imran who was employed by the victim after her domestic help went on leave. Police said Imran had referred two of his friends to 65-year-old Khatija Faruki,but she refused to employ them.

Robbery bid foiled,man arrested
A man was arrested by the Ghatkopar police on Friday after passersby foiled a robbery attempt. Irfan Iqbal Khan (22) had allegedly barged into the Star petrol pump,Narayan Nagar,around 10.30am with four others. “One of them hit the manager on his head. They looted Rs 3.20 lakh from the cash counter,” said PSI S Patil of the Chirag Nagar Ghatkopar police. “They were about to flee when passersby managed to nab Khan.”
