The passenger smuggling cocaine has been arrested and further investigation is underway, said DRI. (File photo)The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) recently arrested a 36-year-old woman from Brazil who ingested 124 capsules containing 973 grams of cocaine to smuggle it to India.
According to DRI officials, the woman Jaqueline Maltez Tiagas was caught after she landed at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai from Sau Paulo on September 18.
According to the DRI officials, Tiagas admitted that she had ingested capsules containing drugs. “The passenger was produced before the magistrate and as per the court order, she was admitted at Sir JJ Hospital in Mumbai,” said a DRI official.
Tiagas purged 124 capsules containing 973 grams of cocaine, which is valued at Rs 9.73 crore in the illicit market. “The substance, purported to be cocaine as per the field test report, was recovered and seized on September 21, under the provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985,” said an officer.
The passenger has been arrested and further investigation is underway, said DRI.
