BJP corporators slam BMC’s rooftop restaurants policy

'If we approve this policy, then peace of citizens especially in areas like Dadar and Parel will disrupt'

Corporators from the BJP slammed the BMC’s new rooftop restaurants policy stating that it will “disturb the culture of a city like Mumbai.”

The policy, which was earlier deferred by the improvements committee, came for discussion again on Thursday when the BJP members termed it as a ‘nuisance’ for the residents. Senior leader and former chairman of the improvements committee said, “If we approve this policy, then youngsters will start having late night parties on rooftops, drink liquor, play loud music, which will disrupt the peace of citizens especially in areas like Dadar and Parel which has a rich culture.”

Another senior leader and member of the improvements committee Prakash Gangadhare said, “The objective of this policy is completely flawed. Why are we allowing people to party on terraces and disturb residents nearby? What is the urgent need for it?” Under the new proposed policy, hotels will be allowed to serve food and liquor and also host parties on their terrace with permission from the civic body.
