Bickering in BJP city unit; Shellar,Shaina quit posts

The bickering in the Mumbai unit of the BJP has come to the fore after the party reconstituted its office-bearers.

Two leaders,Ashish Shelar and Shaina NC,have submitted resignations to unit president Raj Purohit, who announced the party office-bearers last week. While Shelar was the group leader in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation,Shaina was one of the 10 new unit vice-presidents.

Sources said Shelar was aspiring to become the unit president and was disappointed after Purohit was appointed. They said Shaina was unhappy over being made a vice-president as she wanted to become a general secretary.

“Shelar has submitted his resignation (as civic group leader),but a decision on whether to accept it has not been taken,” Purohit said on Saturday. “Usually whenever a new (city) chief takes over, the group leader quits to enable the new chief to appoint a new person or allow him to continue. We’ll discuss the issue and take a decision soon.”

On Shaina,he said,“She appears to be unhappy over the vice-president’s post…I told her that the vice-president’s post was not a small post and even Gopinath Munde was a vice-president once. She has sent a letter, saying that since she is part of the national executive of the party she was not interested in yet another post.”

Incidentally, the office-bearers announced by Purohit included 10 vice-presidents,10 secretaries and five general secretaries.
