A railway motorman suffered injuries when a group of bhajan singers allegedly threw stones at him on Sunday evening. According to sources, the motorman objected to their loud singing when the train reached Nahur station at 4 pm and this provoked the members of the bhajan group. The injured motorman is still under treatment at the Kalyan Railway Hospital. Sources said no FIR has been filed by the police yet.
According to sources,SN Joshi, motorman of a CST- Dombivli local, was unable to concentrate while driving after the train left Kurla station. A group right behind his cabin started singing loudly and banging the walls. When the train reached Nahur station,he scolded them. Enraged at this,a group member threw a stone at him. When the train reached Mulund,Joshi got down and took first aid from the station master office.
When contacted,Joshi said,Im still under the treatment. There are six stitches on my head.
One of his colleagues said,In spite of lot of bleeding,Joshi drove the train up to Dombivli and got him admitted to the Kalyan Railway Hospital. Till now,no railway official or cops have come to see him.
Asked what steps the railways has been taken to avert such incidents,MC Chauhan,Divisional Railway Manager,Mumbai division, said,It is happening with gang-men also. What will the administration may do? We will try to nab the person who has done this…
Asked why an FIR has not been lodged,a police officer said,According to some witnesses, the motorman had a fight with a person of that group. While he was going back to his cabin, somebody threw the stone at him. This was recorded at Nahur railway police station.
But later the police said they didnt record such a statement.
