Badami captures maiden title

The tournament was organized by the Billiards & Snooker Association of Maharashtra (BSAM).

The lanky cueist Badami,recorded a stunning 5-0 whitewash of the experienced Sarang Shroff of National Sports Club of India (NSCI) in best-of-nine frames final,played at the Malabar Hill Club billiards hall on Monday evening.

Badmi,was steady in his potting and the more adventurous of the two cueists in the summit round. He did not hesitate to go for his shots,drilling in some long pots and also found success whenever he attempted the doubles. With the balls also rolling kindly in his favour,Badami completely took the match away from Shroff to script a deserving 64-36,56-55,67-27,59-22,65-8 victory to bag his maiden State title.

Earlier in the semi-fnals played in the morning,Badami dished out an equally solid display to tame club mate and defending champion Nikhil Ootam 4-1 (39-71,62-54,56-22,67-39,48-10) in the best-of-seven frames encounter.

In the other semi-final,Shroff put it across Rushabh Jain of Matunga Gymkhana 4-2 (51-63,67-65,59-75,74-0,46-30,71(62)-0). However,there was some consolation Ootam as he finished third defeating Jain 4-0 (67-10,50-49,56-25,86(65)-14) in the third-fourth place match.

Results: Senior Snooker – finals: Hasan Badami (CCI) beat Sarang Shroff (NSCI) 5-0 (64-36,56-55,67-27,59-22,65-8); Semi-finals: Sarang Shroff beat Rushabh Jain (Matunga Gym) 4-2 (51-63,67-65,59-75,74-0,46-30,71(62)-0); Hasan Badami beat Nikhil Ootam (CCI) 4-1 (39-71,62-54,56-22,67-39,48-10). Third place: Nikhil Ootam beat Rushabh Jain 4-0 (67-10,50-49,56-25,86(65)-14).
