A London-bound British Airways flight made an emergency landing at the Mumbai airport early Thursday morning after the pilots suspected fire inside the wheel well of the aircraft. The aircraft,a Boeing 747/400,had 250 passengers onboard and 17 crew members.
The British Airways flight BA 138 took off from the airport at 3 am this morning but returned at 4:10 am after the fire alarm in the cockpit went off and the pilots requested emergency landing. After the flight took off, pilots noticed the fire alarm light blinking in the cockpit. After landing, airports safety jeep was asked to inspect the undercarriage to assess any damage to the aircraft, said an airport official.
However, whether there was actual fire in the aircraft is yet to be verified as British Airways officials are still investigating the matter.
