Maharashtra former Home minister and senior leader of Nationalist Congress Party (SP) Anil Deshmukh on Monday named a middleman, Samit Kadam, who allegedly met him on behalf of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Devendra Fadnavis to sign an affidavit implicating then Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and his son Aaditya Thackeray who was a minister then.
“Samit Kadam came to meet me three years ago with a sealed envelope, containing documents that I was asked to sign as an affidavit. The affidavit had false allegations against Uddhav Thackeray and Aaditya Thackeray. This Samit Kadam is very close to Devendra Fadnavis and is related to Fadnavis. Everyone knows about his closeness to Devendra Fadnavis,” Deshmukh said.
Deshmukh claimed that Kadam made similar attempt with Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar as well. “Despite not being a public representative, he (Kadam) was given Y-category security,” he said.
Responding to the allegations, Kadam, who hails from Miraj in Sangli, said that it was impossible to reach Deshmukh three years ago if the latter was not willing to meet someone as he was the Home minister then.
Denying that he went to meet Deshmukh on the instructions of Fadnavis, Kadam said, “Yes, I had gone there to meet him because he (Deshmukh) had called me for that meeting. He requested me to talk to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Devendra Fadnavis ji who was the leader of opposition then and see if they can help him and get him out of his problems.”
Deshmukh had earlier alleged that an aide of Fadnavis wanted him to implicate Thackerays as well as then minister Anil Parab and then deputy CM Ajit Pawar during the MVA government. Fadnavis was then the Leader of Opposition. According to Deshmukh, since he refused the offer, he was put behind bars.
