Thirteen-year-old Alden Noronha from Andheris St Dominic Savio high school won gold medals in the 400m and 800m races while settling for silver in the 200m in the recently-concluded inter-school athletics meet at the Sports Authority of India complex at Kandivali.
Alden’s performance doesn’t come as a surprise as he has shown remarkable consistency in all these events. He has been a cut above the rest at the school level, especially in the 400m. Alden boasts of a total of 13 gold, three silver and two bronze medals in different categories.
Earlier in the MSSA inter-school athletics meet,he won the 400m gold in addition to 80m hurdles gold and a bronze in the 200m run to earn the individual trophy. Even at the state level athletics meet, held at Jalna, his silver medal in the 400m earned him a place in the Maharashtra team for the National School Games held in U.P. He was also selected to represent Mumbai Suburbs for the state level athletics championship held in Aurangabad.
His coach Dayanand Shetty said he was quite elated about his performance and hopeful that he will go further up very soon.
