A day after its cabin crew union threatened agitation,Air India revised its decision to ground 23 cabin crew who had allegedly delayed a Delhi-Toronto flight by 16 hours by reporting late for duty at Cairo.
On April 20,the management had derostered the cabin crew and ordered an inquiry against them after the inordinate delay of the AI flight on April 15.
On Wednesday, the cabin crew association said it had directed all its members to strictly adhere to flight timings and not extend any cooperation to the management beyond duty hours stipulated in their contracts that had raised concerns for passengers, who were faced with inconvenience because of the delays.
In view of the managements unconditional withdrawal of illegal derostering of the 23 Cairo cabin crew early morning, the All-India Cabin Crew Association has held in abeyance its directive on flight timings and flight duty time for 48 hours to enable the management to resolve all pending issues, said Sanjay Lazar, general secretary of the All-India Cabin Crew Association,on Thursday.
An Air India spokesperson, however, said that the withdrawal order had nothing to do with the unions call to agitate. We had asked the cabin crew for an explanation. They were derostered as they were to participate in an inquiry. We put them back on the flights once we received their explanations, a spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, the cabin crew is expecting compensation for losing out on flying allowance during their illegal derostering and are looking at legal options.
