Agarkar to lead Mumbai in one-dayers

Ajit Agarkar was today named the captain of Mumbai’s one-day team for its forthcoming West Zone one-day campaign to be held in the city from February 22 to 26.

Ajit Agarkar was today named the captain of Mumbai’s one-day team for its forthcoming West Zone one-day campaign to be held in the city from February 22 to 26. Agarkar made himself available to represent Mumbai recently,after having walked out of the squad for being left out of the playing XI in the earlier part of the season. The former India pacer,who has represented the country in 26 Tests,191 One-Day Internationals and four T20 matches,replaced Wasim Jaffer who had led Mumbai to the Ranji Trophy semifinals before losing to Tamil Nadu.

Jaffer has been named to play under Agarkar as the Mumbai selectors pruned the probables list to the final 15-strong squad. Ajinkya Rahane has been named Agarkar’s deputy.

MUMBAI Customs staved off a late fightback from a determined Union Bank of India (UBI) to snatch a close 3-2 win in an absorbing Elite Division match of the Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) league at the Poinsur Gymkhana ground,Kandivili on Tuesday. Customs led 2-1 at half-time. Enterprising striker Francisco Salian,the livewire in the Mumbai Customs attack,stunned UBI as he scored the opening goal following a raid at the rival goal in the very second minute of the match.
