A teenager was among six people who died while crossing the tracks between Kandivli and Malad stations on Friday. All six were killed in a 14-hour period from Thursday night to Friday morning. Three contract workers,repairing a signal between the stations,were among the dead.
On Thursday,an old woman died between Kandivali and Malad while crossing tracks at 5.15pm. Around 9.40 pm,Chetu Gattu Lohara Kashyap (36),Pritesh Narain Pujari (24) and Shravan Pandey (25) were hit by a train between the stations. They were working away from the tracks but may not have seen the train while crossing, said Sharat Chandrayan ,Chief Public Relations Officer,Western Railway. On Friday, Robinson Balgon (21) and Navin Parte (14) were run over near Poisar Naka at 5.50 am .
With these daths,the death toll on the Borivali section of WR,comprising Dahisar,Borivali,Kandivali,Malad and Goregaon,has risen to 98 since January. From Jaunary 2010 to December 2010,the section reported 342 deaths and 436 injuries.
PM Karyakarte,Senior Inspector,Government Railway Police,Borivali section said,” All the people died on the spot. Their bodies have been sent for post mortem. There are a lot of encroachments along the tracks in this section and many of the incidents were a result of trespassing.
More than 3,710 people were killed and over 4,123 were injured last year on Central and Western Railway lines. Most of the incidents were a result of trespassing.
