3 held for stealing transformer

The Railway Protection Force arrested three persons for stealing a transformer on the railway premises at Kalyan station on July 26.

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) arrested three persons for stealing a transformer on the railway premises at Kalyan station on July 26. They were produced before the court on July 27 and were remanded to the police custody for two days.

The Central Railway (CR) had installed 12 transformers at Kalyan station as it wanted to get electricity from the Maharashtra State Electricity Board.

According to sources,around 1.30 pm on Sunday,three people came with a crane and took away the transformer. But immediately,a team led by Senior Police Inspector MS Qureshi of the RPF reached the spot and caught them red-handed.

The accused were identified as Agya Ram Prasad Singh,Ashok Sitaram Punjani and Rajendra Prasad. According to sources,the accused told the police that some people hired them for Rs 5,000 and asked them to load the transformer in the lorry attached to the crane.Qureshi said,“The investigation is on. An FIR has been lodged with the RPF for theft.”
