A 25-year-old man was killed in Grant Road area on Sunday,allegedly by two men who quarreled with him over a matchbox,police said. Rajesh Doiphode suffered head injuries was declared dead upon arrival at J J Hospital.
Doiphode lived with his twin brother Yogesh and both were unemployed,police said. Around 1.45 am on Monday,the two were walking towards their home when they were allegedly accosted by Ashraf Ansari (22) and Mohammad Ansari (32).
They asked Rajesh for matches to light a cigarette,but Rajesh said he didnt have any. The police said the accused then put their hands inside Rajesh’s pockets. This led to a brawl. The accused allegedly overpowered both brothers and banged Rajesh’s head on the ground several times.
Patrolling policemen nabbed Ashraf at the spot,while Mohammad managed to escape. He was arrested at 7.30 am on Monday,police said.
