2 country-made guns seized,man arrested

A man picked up by Dadar railway police in a theft case allegedly revealed during interrogation that he had hidden two country-made handguns on top of a drinking water tank at Kurla railway station,thus blowing the lid off a gunrunning racket.

A man picked up by Dadar railway police in a theft case allegedly revealed during interrogation that he had hidden two country-made handguns on top of a drinking water tank at Kurla railway station,thus blowing the lid off a gunrunning racket.

Local Crime Branch (LCB) of the Railway Police said Alam Khan (22) of Azamgarh,UP,was picked up from his residence in Malwani recently in connection with theft cases on local trains. He allegedly revealed that he had brought two country-made guns to the city from Azamgarh last week but had stashed them at Kurla station after seeing policemen conducting random checks of travellers’ bags.

“Khan brought the guns and five cartridges on Saturday. After reaching Kurla,he hid the guns on top of a drinking water tank on platforms two and three. We have recovered the weapons,” said senior inspector Naseer Sheikh.

Khan was arrested and charged under the Arms Act. The weapons were given to Khan by his friend Samir Sheikh,police said. The duo took the same express train from Azamgarh and the guns changed hands en route. Police are on the lookout for Sheikh.
