Union govt intentionally delaying Lakkar Bridge project: Dhillon

Repeated delays in the completion of the Lakkar Bridge and Expressway projects are due entirely on the part of the Railways for which the central government is wholly responsible

Repeated delays in the completion of the Lakkar Bridge and Expressway projects are due entirely on the part of the Railways for which the central government is wholly responsible, said PWD Minister Sharanjeet Singh Dhillon on Wednesday afternoon. However he gave yet another deadline for the completion of the Lakkar Bridge – December 31. The project has already missed more than a dozen deadlines that had been announced by the ministers.

“We put in our best efforts, but it seems that the central government is delaying these projects willingly so as to spoil the image of the state government. However, the voters are also smart enough and they know the reason behind the delays,” said Dhillon.

“In the Expressway project, the Railways is not giving us proper information about their side of the work while in the Lakkar Bridge project, all the work on the part of the state government is complete but Railways is delayingits own work,” he added.

When asked about the loss to the state roads after heavy rainfall in the past one week,he stated that so far,no report regarding the loss of roads had been made, but that repair works if any will be done without any delays.

Talking about a scam in PWD department in Ferozepur,Dhillon stated that corruption will not be tolerated. He added,“I appeal to all the residents to give me proof of corruption anywhere in the district in my department and strictest possible action will be taken.”

Dhillon spoke about his own constituency and stated that expansion of airport will be done in Sahnewal and for this,350 acres of additional space had already been acquired.
