Total ban on mining in district: DC

Following the orders of the Punjab and Haryana High Court,Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rahul Tiwari today ordered a complete ban on any type of mining activity within the jurisdiction of Ludhiana district.

Following the orders of the Punjab and Haryana High Court,Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rahul Tiwari today ordered a complete ban on any type of mining activity within the jurisdiction of Ludhiana district. However,he stated that excavation of any type of minerals cannot be done from any mining site without seeking environmental clearance. The order stands for excavation of mud,crusher,sand,coarse sand,sand for brick kilns etc.

As per the orders,no material should come out of the mining sites without seeking environmental clearance.

However even today sand,crusher,coarse sand etc are available in the market but at a very high price.

The Deputy Commissioner stated that as per the violations seen in various locations,orders were issued to register 32 first information reports (FIRs),out of which FIRs on 29 persons have been registered.

For two of the remaining three cases,legal advice has been sought and it has been ordered to register FIRs even in these cases as well within two days.

In one case the person in question has died,the Deputy Commissioner informed.

It needs to be mentioned that Ludhiana Earth Moving Association members had sat on dharna outside the Deputy Commissioners office on Monday.

Even on Wednesday as well,they will again be sitting on a dharna,questioning why the excavation of mud has been included in the mining act.

Development works are being seriously delayed further with the complete ban on mining in the state,the Ludhiana Builders Association pointed out.
