Three teenaged youths hailing from an area along the rail tracks were mowed down by an unknown train near the Sunet village on Friday night.

The Government Railway Police said two boys — Lalu and Kala both aged 15 years, were found dead while 16-year-old Aneesh was rushed to the Civil Hospital in the city where he breathed his last.

“The accident is believed to have taken place sometime during the night and it is not clear what these boys were doing when they met with the accident,” Sukhdev Singh,GRP post in charge at Jagraon, said.

The bodies of the three youth were discovered in the morning after a train driver spotted the bodies and informed the GRP. Aneesh whose both legs and arms were badly crushed under the wheels of the train, was taken to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

According to some unconfirmed information, however, the trio was said to be under the influence of drugs, but the GRP said nothing could be said in this regard as it had not been ascertained.

“Their families have told us that they were not into drug abuse. Therefore,we cannot say why they could not judge the speed of the train,” Sukhdev Singh said.
