Teachers plan stir from tomorrow

Punjab Government College Teachers Association has decided to launch massive agitation against the anti-teachers policies of the Akali-BJP government from October 19.

Punjab Government College Teachers Association (PGCTA) has decided to launch massive agitation against the anti-teachers policies of the Akali-BJP government from October 19. The agitation will include campus rallies of students and teachers from October 19 to 21. Regional rallies from November 1 to 5 and state-level really with mass casual leave on November 8.

The president of PGTCA,Prof Jaipal Singh,said that the association was forced to take such drastic steps for the government’s attitude towards higher education and teachers demands. He said that in spite of regular interaction with the government authorities and political leadership,higher education minister,Sewa Singh Sekhwan did not give any assurance to implement the demands of the teachers.

He said,“All Punjab government employees have got share of arrears of revised pay scales,but college teachers have not been given even a single rupee. Number of UGC recommendations regarding the relaxation in refresher courses,creation of professors posts in colleges and full pension after 20 years of service has not been given any attention by the state government.”

Regional rallies will be organised in Ludhiana on November 1,Patiala on November 2,Amritsar on November 3 and Bathinda on November 4.
