In a crack down on corrupt officials,a team of Vigilance Officials led by SP Ravcharan Singh Brar nabbed a sales tax inspector and his peon who were caught red handed demanding a bribe from shopkeepers in Issa Nagri.

Adressing the media,SP Brar informed,“Sanjeev Bangar, who owns a shoe shop in Issa Nagri had filed a complaint with us that Jagdish Singh,Sales Tax Inspector, and his peon Sandeep were demanding bribe from him.”

Brar said Jagdish Singh had told the shopkeepers,“His sale was higher than shown in books and thus he was not paying his due sales tax.” Jagdish Singh told the shopkeeper that a fine of Rs 20,000 could be slapped on him and in order to save himself from all the official process, the matter could be settled for Rs 5,000.”

Brar added,“Bangar paid the first installment of Rs 3,000 and asked Jagdish Singh to come to the marke for the second installments. Meanwhile,he lodged a complaint to us also. We were told that Jagdish was trying to strike a deal with the entire market asking them to pay a fixed amount of bribe for the entire year. And for this deal,he wanted to meet the president of the Shop keeper Association of this area.”

Brar posed as the president and began striking the deal. When Bangar paid the remaining Rs 2,000 to Jagdish Singh,he was arrested by the VB and a case of corruption was slapped on him and his peon.
