In a move to tackle staff crunch at its two regional centres, the Panjab University has decided to provide lessons through videoconferencing. The lectures prepared by professors in the university would be taught to students studying in these regional centres. Talking to Newsline,Prof Naval Kishore,Dean Students Welfare, said,”There is a shortage of lecturers at the regional centres. So,we have decided to teach through videoconferencing. Besides this, professors would also record lessons which would be sent to the regional centres where junior lecturers would use the material to teach students.” The university has two regional centres at Ludhiana and Hoshairpur. Though these centres have teachers on contract, they lack permanent staff.
Harpreer Kaur, who studies at the Hoshiarpur Regional Centre, said,”We have good teachers but with access to study material which would be offered by the PU authorities,it would hold us in good stead.” Besides providing lectures prepared by the PU professors, the university also is working on the placements of students studying at UBS at its Ludhiana regional centre.
