The issue of empty nallahs which are no longer being used for irrigation purposes was discussed in the Vidhan Sabha during Question Hour on Friday. MLA Manpreet Singh Ayali raised the issue. With the increase in urban areas, farm land has reduced. So many nallahs and minor canals of the Irrigation Department which used to supply water for irrigation of agriculture land are now of no use. In many areas, the land has already been encroached on while in other areas,it is lying vacant. So the department needs to make a policy to identify all these dry canals and nallahs so that they can be auctioned, he said.
