Election observers will be doing the first checking of the expenditure registers of candidates from Wednesday onwards.The checking drive will be on till January 28.
The candidates meanwhile are busy maintaining the registers because they have to be presented before the RO offices from Wednesday onwards. They will be checked thrice till January 28,revealed District Electoral Officer (DEO)-cum-DC Rahul Tiwari.
It needs to be mentioned that there are total 13 election observers out of which five are expenditure observers. The expenditure of the candidates will be compared with the expenditure register of shadow observers and difference,if found,will have to be born by the candidate.
In case of gross violations,action will also be taken against the candidate. In addition to this,the candidates can also file their objections if any before the observers,told the DEO.
The candidates had started maintaining the register from the day one they were declared the candidate. Slips of every minute expenditure were being taken by the candidates unlike the previous years.
A Newsline team saw the staff of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) candidate from Payal,Charanjit Singh Atwal,maintaining a record of each and every item so as to be sure on every item.
Similar was the scene at the office of Ludhiana West candidate from Congress,Bharat Bhushan Ashu,Ludhiana East candidate Gurmail Pehalwaan ,SAD candidate from Jagraon S R Kler and others. Inderiqbal Atwal,son of Charanjit Atwal said,
It is not a difficult task for us to maintain the register. We are ready to show it to the observers on Wednesday.
However,many others found it a cumbersome job and they had to appoint a CA specially for this purpose.
