The Independent Monitoring Committee,constituted by the Federation of Dyeing Factories Associations,Ludhiana (Regd) for control of pollution,by the textile dyeing units today made surprise visits to one textile dyeing unit each at Tajpur Road and Focal Point.
The committee headed by SP Karkara,former director,Local Bodies,Government of Punjab,along with Dr BD Kansal,former professor,Department of Soil,Punjab Agricultural University,and Er RL Mahajan,former engineer-in-chief,Punjab State Electricity Board,Ludhiana,carried out inspection of the effluent treatment plants being operated by the units.
The committee took samples for independent testing to find out the level of achievement of standards prescribed by PPCB. The committee took samples from Berry Scientific Dyers,Tajpur Road,and Sacchi Processors,Focal Point.
The results of the samples will be known after one week.The committee members informed that such surprise visits to the units of other members of the federation will be made regularly. The units visited were selected by the committee randomly.
VK Goyal,general secretary of the federation appreciated the professional manner in which the committee carried out the visits to the units. Goyal expressed hope that independent and surprise monitoring by the committee would significantly improve the pollution control by the textile dyeing units and generate greater awareness and accountability among the units.
