Newborn stolen from hospital,returned

A newborn boy was stolen from the Deep Hospital in Model Town area on Monday morning. But the woman who had stolen the infant returned it to his biological parents in the evening. The child’s father,Mohammad Nasir,a resident of Malerkotla,had brought him to the hospital last week as he was critically ill.

On Monday morning,the paternal and maternal grandmothers of the child were sitting with him right outside the hospital,when a woman approached them and expressed her desire to hold him. According to the grandmothers,the woman began to play with the baby and taking advantage of the rush inside the hospital,ran away with the child.

The woman has been identified but her identity has not been disclosed as yet. Reportedly,she is undergoing treatment for infertility at the hospital. Dr Baljeet Singh,owner of the Deep Hospital,said,“The boy has been reunited with his biological parents. The hospital had no role to play in the entire issue,for the baby had been relieved from the hospital today. The entire episode happened outside the hospital.” The police have arrested the accused.
