More crorepatis file papers,Bhandari violates model code

On the last day of filing nominations,crorepati candidates Jassi Khangura,Gurmail Pehalwaan,BJP candidate Rajinder Bhandari and a further 210 other candidates filed papers.

On the last day of filing nominations,crorepati candidates Jassi Khangura,Gurmail Pehalwaan( both Congress),BJP candidate Rajinder Bhandari and a further 210 other candidates filed papers. A total of 213 candidates filed their papers. Bhandari,however,violated the code of conduct as he submitted his nomination papers to the Ludhiana West returning officer,accompanied by more than five people. The RO,however,failed to notice the violation.

A majority of Khangura’s assets are in his wife’s name. Jassi along with spouse has assets worth Rs 30.94 crore,out of which his wife’s share is Rs 23.61 crore. His covering candidate,father Jagpal Singh Khangura,declared assets worth Rs 3.96 crore and the entire Khangura family is thus worth Rs 34.90 crore. Among the family’s assets,is a house in Chandigarh owned by his wife and worth Rs 17.82 crore,and agriculture land in Latala village worth 3.37 crore,also in his wife’s name.

On the other hand,Gurmail Pehalwaan,the Congress candidate from Ludhiana East has declared assets worth Rs 10.47 crore out of which only 66 lakhs are in his wife’s name. This includes a commercial plot valued at Rs 58 lakh and gold worth Rs 8 lakh. Pehalwaan has declared agriculture land worth Rs 4.5 crore and commercial land worth Rs 7.7 crore. Former state BJP president Rajinder Bhandari,however,owns no car and his wife has a Honda Activa,while his son possess a passion plus motorbike. His assets are approximately worth Rs 4.5 crore.
