In order to provide better quality water to the city residents, gas chlorination is being considered by the Municipal Corporation authorities.

A five-member team comprising senior deputy mayor Parveen Bansal, joint commissioner B.K Gupta, executive engineers Manjit Singh,Kamlesh Bansal and superintending engineer K.S Dhillon today visited Chandigarh to survey the tubewells’ working there.

Bansal said,“Gas chlorination is being opted at Chandigarh. We found it a better option in which gas cylinders will be fitted at each tubewells rather than manually mixing chlorine in water which is being done at the moment in Ludhiana

“Recently, tenders for chlorination of more than 500 tubewells of Ludhiana worth Rs 500 crores were to be given. But I raised an objection, because the present system needs to be updated and now the whole team has found gas chlorination as the best option. We will propose this to the next finance and contract committee. This facility will be started in a few of the tubewells initially,” he said.

Apart from this,a control room has also been set up in Chandigarh under which one can get details of all the city tubewells while sitting at one place i.e which tubewells are faulty, where boring work is going on,what is the water level in different tubewells etc. The team also wants to replicate this technique in Ludhiana as well. Even this proposal will be mooted in the finance meeting, which will reduce the manual work and a person can come to know water situation in the city while sitting at one place,he added.
