Linguistic pursuits

Language is her nemesis and Nisha believes English gives her the strength to express herself in the best possible way.

Language is her nemesis and Nisha believes English gives her the strength to express herself in the best possible way.

Language, incidentally,is also her secret to fame.

A final-year humanities student at Ramgarhia Girls College,Nisha shot to limelight after her essay on Indo-Pak peace ties was picked up as one of the select entries for a book released by the Commission for Justice Peace and Development last year.

Nisha landed in a job a few months later, based on the clarity in her speech. She showed mettle by cracking the test and the interview at one go in times when jobs are hard to come by.

At present,Nisha is working with the State Bank of India as an assistant in accounts and cash division at its Gill Road branch. “I joined work in January and initially it was tough to manage classes with office. But I have been able to pull it off well,” she beams, adding that these days she is busy taking exams apart from going to office regularly.

The banking sector has infused so much interest in her that she is now planning to make a career here. “I thought it would not be such an enriching proposition working in the banking sector, but now I find it interesting and full of activity,” she says about her job.

Talking about her future plans,Nisha adds: “I think I would like to make a career in the banking sector only. As for my love for English,it is something that is inseparable from me. I am an avid reader and like to collect the English words, phrases and famous quotations of prominent personalities. I have made diaries out of this hobby. Quotations are something I fall back on whenever I am feeling low or even on top of the world.”
